First off, Gerald McCoy. This starting defensive tackle for the Tampa Bay Bucaccaneers will have to sit out for the rest of the season with a torn bicep. This week in regular season action against the New Orleans Saints was when the injury occurred. This is the second year in a row that he will have to prematurely end his season because of a torn bicep. However, last year it was his left bicep that was torn. It is obvious that the already struggling Buccanneers(4-4) will take a major hit from this loss. If the Bucs would have won this game it would have kept them in second place in the NFC South with a shot at a conference championship. However, with the lost the dropped to third with little to no hope of winning conference, qualifying for playoffs or even having a chance at the wild card slot.
Next up, Joe Paterno. This is a major controversy that I have VERY mixed emotions on. I recognize that Joe did what he was legally obligated to do by passing it on the athletic director. I realize that he can not go to the cops, he can not because he would have been going on accusations that he heard. But, what I do not get is even after the incident occurred and Sandusky no longer coached, JoePa still allowed him in the State College campus. He should not have let Sandusky hang around the campus, or practice, Sandusky even had kids with him at some of the practices he attended. Sandusky is a sick freak. JoePa should have recognized this and not allowed him on the campus. You would figure that since Joe is a father and grandfather, that he would be a whole lot more sensitive to this issue and take drastic action to ensure that this would not happen again. Unfortunately, he did not and since the first accusation there have been quite a few kids that have come out saying that they have had...unfortunate...run ins with Sandusky recently. I don't know what should be done and that is why I am in the position to make these decisions.
Overall, it has been a very wierd and unfortunate week in the world of football. Well, until next time, The Guru is out.
